ActiveSMS is a service that converts SMS text messages sent to this site into emails, then publishes them to both an HTTP and a WAP site.

 

'ActiveSMS Notification' enables the site to SMS each registered user if someone sends in a text with a special keyword to indicate it is currently kitesurfable!

 

First off, save the hassle of having to remember to text all your fellow kiters, whom will certainly be pissed-off if you forget to tell them your going out!

 

Secondly, it will ensure we all get the good news, providing we all remember to send the text prior to going out in the first place!

 

Thirdly, it may well be cheaper than you personally texting your various buddies, dependant on your mobile phone tariff.

The idea of this service is to enable all registered users to share their text messages with each other. This will allow those looking to kitesurf to keep abreast of the latest developments in the weather, by viewing the text messages sent from fellow kiters.

 

In order to keep the costs down for this type of service, I decided to use a commercial service for SMS2WEB conversion and to produce a website for viewing the text messages hosted elsewhere.

 

This will utlimately work better for some people, as often, they are only able to go kitesurfing after work and therefore don't need to be actively notified. However, they may have access to the internet and can view the site to ascertain whether or not it is kiteable and which beach everyone is at.
